After a suggestion from her therapist, Joanna Barnett began to draw and paint what she felt. Barnett was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder that left her isolated and depressed, an affliction she battled for 30 years. Through her therapist’s suggestion, Barnett set herself a goal: to draw a self-portrait every day for 40 days. She found that “after awhile, there was no face in the mirror, only an energy shaped by mood and event…I was a personality caught in a kaleidoscope.” The YWCA in Cincinnati has all 40 portraits on display through June 7. 898 Walnut Street, Downtown. 513-241-7090. ywcacincinnati.org.
