Hard Rock and Heavy Metal need Motörhead. For over two decades, the group has continually pumped out pummeling, Nitro-Punk songs that never change. Usually, if a band sticks to a formula for too long, it gets repulsive. For Motörhead— whose songs with more than three chords are considered "adventurous" — the reason they've stuck around is based on their lack of desire to follow trends. Heavy Metal has gone from Glam to heartfelt balladeering to today's Hip Hop-tinged, syncopated power Metal, and Motörhead— who've inspired more rockers than they'll ever get credit for — don't seem to have noticed. Fittingly, the group's current release is the relentless, live Everything Louder Than Everything Else, recorded in Germany and capturing that propulsive, timeless grind that is unmistakable. Overdriven bass, rasped-out vocals, volume knobs past 11, breakneck drumbeats, cheeky audience shout-outs — it's all on Everything, as quintessential a Motörhead album as you're going to get.
