It Might Get Loud (Review)

Compact Rock doc centers on three guitar masters

Director Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth) brings together Rock music legends Jimmy Page and U2’s The Edge with The White Stripes’ Jack White for an eventful behind-the-scenes look at how these great musicians communicate with each other and create music. Impromptu jam sessions and individual strolls down memory lane reveal the guitarists’ childlike passion for their chosen instrument and their sources of inspiration from divergent musical influences.

It Might Get Loud is a compact music documentary that could serve as a great stepping-off point for a cable television series, a la the Sundance Channel's Iconoclasts. It’s as much about the chemistry — Page is a perfectly amiable bloke — or lack thereof, since The Edge and White seem diametrically opposed, that keeps the musical discussion interesting. Grade: B-
