Ryan Bingham

March 27 • Taft Theatre

As the old adage says, “preparation meets opportunity” is often the path to success in the music world. However, a little luck doesn’t hurt, either. When you talk about the career of Ryan Bingham, all of the above is true.

Bingham grew up in West Texas, spending a few years on the professional rodeo circuit while cultivating his love for playing and writing music. With his band The Dead Horses, he recorded two well-received albums before lightning struck four years ago.

In 2009, T-Bone Burnett asked Bingham to collaborate on the soundtrack of the acclaimed movie Crazy Heart. The flick featured Jeff Bridges, Colin Ferrell, Robert Duvall and Maggie Gyllenhaal, with Bridges going on to grab an Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Bingham won both an Oscar and a Grammy Award for the song “The Weary Kind,” which he co-wrote and performed for the movie.

Eventually, Bingham left his band and his old record label behind and last year he moved forward with his latest effort called Tomorrowland. The new project finds Bingham leaving his Alt Country tilt in the rear-view mirror as he brings a harder rocking edge to the album and his live shows.
