Matthew Shelton and Victor Strunk are sharing the exhibition space at Aisle. This Friday the exhibition closes (reception 7-10 p.m.) with a performance by Me Or The Moon, a band in which both artists belong. Moon is a percussive romp laced with funk and romance. Shelton’s vocals are gentle and blatant with occasionally grizzly downturns. In his art, Shelton practices many mediums, but for this exhibition he has focused on new explorations in the lightbox format. Whereas the imagery in his earlier lightbox works are surreal and hallucinogenic, these boxes are dotted with richly hued pinpoints of light organized into circular, mandala forms that dance as you move through the darkened gallery. Strunk’s darkly narrative paintings and figure sculptures might tell the nightmarish visions of Ezekiel. They are sparkling, mythological narratives featuring dessert-colored angels and broken dolls. In one sculpture, bejeweled trappings sit inside of a hollowed head, depicting the dreamy, psychological quality infused in the entire exhibition. Performance begins at 8 p.m.
