Believe it or not, the art of beer can collecting extends beyond that Keystone pyramid you and your friends left on the kitchen counter last weekend. There are folks out there who are more serious about their beverage containers than the buzz-inducing brew they once contained — and they'll all be gathering in the Cincy area this week to expand their collections. The 41st annual CANvention, hosted by The Brewery Collectibles Club of America, will take place Thursday-Saturday for some pre-Labor Day fun. Prepare to browse thousands of vintage and current cans, signs and other forms of beer-related advertising at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center. Whether you're just looking to view some sweet vintage memorabilia, deck out your own bar or add to your own historic collection, be prepared to brush shoulders with about 800 other members and guests. Events scheduled Thursday and Friday are open only to BCCA members who register for the CANvention, but the trade floor in the Convention Center will be open to the public from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Walk-in guests will be charged $10 admission that can be applied to a BCCA membership. Registered members and guests get to taste craft beers brewed by some of the region's top microbreweries Thursday night. There's also a "mega dump" of old beer cans sponsored by the Rusty Bunch chapter, as well as two educational seminars to catch in the Madison II room in the Marriott at River Center Sept. 2 and 3.
