Ace guitarist Robben Ford has always had the chops. The California native has a resume that includes five Grammy Award nominations, as well as music made with a list of artists ranging from George Harrison, Miles Davis and Phil Lesh to Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi.

Ford’s Cincinnati visit comes fresh off of a tour of Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. Always the happy musical warrior, he will be kicking in his Blues, Rock and Jazz stylings with his touring band, which features Brian Allen on bass (Jamey Johnson, The Secret Sisters, John Scofield), Ricky Peterson on keyboards (Prince, David Sanborn, Brian Wilson) and Wes Little on drums (Chuck D, Britt Savage, Joe Nichols).

Ford’s latest album is called A Day in Nashville, a rocking effort released last month that, as the title suggests, was recorded live in the studio in one day in Music City USA. Ford decided to work in Nashville because bandmates Little and Allen and co-producer Rick Wheeler live there, and he also utilized a hot local trombone player named Barry Green, who has played with Vince Gill, Tony Bennett and Keith Urban. Another guest on the album is former Black Crowes guitarist Audley Freed.

ROBBEN FORD performs at 20th Century Theater Tuesday, May 6. Tickets/more info here .
