Music: Pro Arte Quartet

When the renowned Pro Arte Quartet makes its Chamber Music Cincinnati debut this week, it will be bringing nearly a century's worth of acclaim and history to its appearance. Currently comprised of violinists David Perry and Suzanne Beia, violist Sally Chisholm and cellist (and CCM faculty member) Parry Karp, the Pro Arte Quartet was actually founded in 1912 and quickly became the court quartet to the queen of Belgium. The group made its American debut 14 years later and subsequently booked 30 tours stateside over the next dozen years. The Quartet was stranded in America after the outbreak of WWII in 1940 and were invited to become artists-in-residence at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where it remains based to this day.
