Comments: The City of Cincinnati owns 16 houses on this stretch of River Road, according to Joan Buttner, an engineer with the Department of Transportation and Engineering. The city will be tearing down the buildings it owns, she says. Bids for the demolition job were due Dec. 11.

"We would hope to start work late January, early February," Buttner says.

The inspector for 2775 River Road is Lonnie Wise from the Department of Buildings and Inspections.

"They bought most of those down there with the idea that they were going to straighten River Road out," Wise says. "That road's going to be widened."

The city's goal was to move the produce companies that were formerly on Second Street to this area, Wise says. The construction of Paul Brown Stadium displaced those businesses, but the vendors instead decided to relocate to Kentucky.

The lanes are currently too narrow to keep trucks in them, and a sharp curve at River and Mt. Echo roads will be addressed, according to Buttner.

The city is receiving federal money for the construction and had to complete historical reviews before work could begin, according to Buttner. She says widening of the road will begin in 2005.
