What happens when a photographer takes black and white pictures in a painter's garden? William Messer's 20-year, off-and-on project in Monet's garden at Giverny presents his own vision of a place already known through the paintings it inspired, some of them currently on view at the Cincinnati Art Museum in Monet in Giverny: Landscapes of Reflection. PAC Gallery opens Photographs of Reflection: William Messer in Monet's Garden Friday, a photographic counterpoint to the CAM exhibition. Messer's small format, 35-mm camera and black and white film enable him “to expose more of the garden's underlying structure,” he says, rather than attempting to replicate the paintings. The gallery, recently open only by appointment, will have regular hours, noon to 5 p.m., on Fridays and Saturdays through the run of the show.
