Dialogue on the War
Xavier University Army ROTC and the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center are co-sponsoring a Day of Dialogue on Iraq at Bellarmine Chapel on Xavier's campus from 7-9:30 p.m. Nov. 10. Four Iraq War veterans will share their stories and perspectives. Everyone's point of view is welcome.
Remembering Buddy Gray
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Buddy Gray, advocate on behalf of the poor and homeless. An open mic poetry reading at the Drop Inn Center in Gray's honor is at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9. Supporters will hold a memorial march from Buddy's Place, 1300 Vine St., to Washington Park beginning at 5 p.m. Nov. 15, with fellowship at Nast Trinity Church after the program. Build the Compassionate Community
The 2006-2007 Food for Thought Luncheon Lecture series at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion continues at noon Nov. 8 with a presentation by Jonathan Miller, Kentucky State Treasurer and author of The Compassionate Community: Ten Values to Unite America. Dissect the Vote
To analyze how the results of the election might affect civil liberties in Ohio and across the United States, the ACLU of Ohio will host a panel of experts for Election Dissection 2006. The program is at 7p.m. Nov. 15 at St. John's Unitarian Universalist Church in Clifton. Speakers include Nancy Minson, president of the Women's Political Caucus of Cincinnati; Jason Riveiro, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens of Cincinnati; and Gary Wright, president of Equality Cincinnati. Admission is free.
New York Times Editor at Miami
Cincinnati native Gail Collins, editorial page editor of The New York Times, speaks at 4 p.m. Nov. 14 in Room 128 Pearson Hall on the campus of Miami University. Her topic, "Opinion-Making in an Age of Contention," will offer an analysis of her editorial section's influence and reputation during her five-year tenure, a period marked by expansion and intense scrutiny.

Native American Journalism
Native American journalist Native American journalist Mark Anthony Rolo speaks at Xavier University at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in Alter Hall's Kelley Auditorium. A member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, Rolo is former executive director of the Native American Journalists Association. His lecture will focus on a two-part PBS series, Indian Country Diaries. Admission is free.
Build a New World
Xavier University's second annual Vision of Hope speaker series is based on the theme, "Five Pillars of a New World Building," explored in a video by Benjamin J. Urmston, S.J., director of Peace and Justice Programs at XU. Each session meets from 7-9 p.m. The topics are "Democratic World Order," Jan. 22, in the Schiff Family Conference Center at the Cintas Center; "Human Rights," Feb. 11 in the Schiff Family Conference Center; and "Nonviolence," March 19, in a location to be announced. Admission is free.
The Mayor Will See You Now
Mayor's Night In is a program that invites citizens into the office of Mayor Mark Mallory Office to talk about whatever is on their minds. The schedule is 5-7 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 15 and Dec. 5 and 19.
