New Orleans is of course known for its musical history and for producing funky jams amidst the joyous chaos of the city. Galactic has been a part of the Crescent City groove machinery for almost two decades now.
The horn-driven band has always been open minded when it comes to joining forces with other artists and has incorporated Jam Band and Electronica influences into its music at various creative periods in its existence.
Over the last few years, Galactic has released a series of albums that have solidified the group’s standing in the greater world of the riff. In 2012, the band dropped its first true Mardi Gras album called Carnivale Electricos, which featured young blood Mardi Gras Indian Chief Juan Pardo and the Golden Comanche tribe, David Shaw from The Revivalists, singer/pianist Al “Carnival Time” Johnson and many others. For the last two years in a row, Galactic has released singles that showcase its propensity to collaborate.
Early last year, the band dropped “Dolla Diva” featuring Shaw and singer Maggie Koerner. And last month Galactic released yet another funky bomb with guest JJ Grey called “Higher and Higher.” Both cuts can be heard at galacticfunk.com.
When Galactic comes to blow the roof off of the 20 Century Theatre this week, it will be joined by the awesome New Orleans-based “about-to-break” singer Erica Falls.
