Most guitar-slinging comedians offer their audiences a bit of traditional stand-up during a set. Not Mark Eddie. “Pretty much the whole show is guitar. Basically, that’s what I do,” says the musician-turned-comic. “I take interesting songs and music which I know well and find the funny within the music.” That can include spot-on impressions of anyone from Neil Diamond to Shaggy. He’ll also compare and contrast genres, look at old music versus new music and perform original songs about his family and his personal life. “I spent 12 years as a professional musician in all the clubs working by myself and with a band back in the day.” At one time he opened for acts like Melissa Etheridge and college radio faves Toad the Wet Sprocket. It was a run on the coffeehouse circuit in Los Angeles though that revealed his lighter side. Performing storytelling songs morphed into more humorous material, and his comedy career was launched.
