Tea Leaf Green plays Rock music, but not the kind you hear on WEBN or the sort that sometimes makes it onto Top 40 playlists. The only new(-ish) artist that even begins to compare to the band is Derek Trucks, and he’s not appearing regularly during the rush hour mix, either.

That’s OK, though. Tea Leaf Green purposely plays on a different wavelength, one most often found with Classic Rock or Jam bands. Their penchant for electric guitar and keyboard improvisations leads to comparisons with the likes of Phish, a fair association and one that has earned the band plenty of fans.

Tea Leaf Green formed in the late ’90s during college at San Francisco State University. By the early 2000s, the band had become a well-known name in the SF music scene. Soon they were playing to sold-out venues in their hometown. The logical next step was to hit the road, and Tea Leaf Green has been on a near-constant tour ever since.
