“When I was younger, I used to write a lot more angry material,” says comedian Auggie Smith. “Everything wrong with society.” He has since mellowed out. “As you get older you just kind of want everybody to be OK with everybody else, so now I write angry rants about other people’s anger and how that bothers me.” Another thing that amuses Smith is arguing the side of an issue — any issue — he feels might be unpopular with his club audiences. “I think it’s just funny to argue a certain point and a lot of the points I argue I don’t even agree with.” He does this because he feels one branch of comedy isn’t in the best of health. “I worry that satire is becoming a dead art in popular society,” he says. “So, I’m going to continue to pound satire down people’s throats until they do understand it.” Smith performs Thursday-Sunday at Go Bananas. $10-$15.
