Old West Festival

Live like John Wayne every weekend in September (and the beginning of October) as you travel back to the days of the Wild West.

The Old West Festival transforms some rambling acreage of the Ohio countryside into an authentic Dodge City Wild West town dating back to 1878 — so don your best period attire and play along. The live action retelling takes you back in history for some family-friendly fun featuring antique storefronts, period interpreters walking the streets to say “howdy,” puppet shows and gunfight reenactments.

Young’uns can pan for gold and even get sworn in as deputy — all while Mom and Pop enjoy a cold beer at the saloon. City slickers are invited to attend medicine shows, magic shows and ride the 19th-century steam locomotive or hop onto a covered wagon.

10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday through Oct. 6. $12 adult; $6 children. 1449 Greenbush Cobb Road, Williamsburg, oldwestfestival.com
