While live Hip Hop is enjoying a resurgence in Cincinnati, it's still rare for creative and legendary national acts to come to town. So it's especially unique that Big Daddy Kane (the legend) and Prince Paul (the innovator; pictured) would pull in to Cincy on their current tour — not to mention that it'll be with the intimate atmosphere of a relatively small club (Top Cat's). Kane's old-school approach never meant that he was stuck in the past, and his smooth style developed with the times (though always retaining a strong purity). Prince Paul is one of Hip Hop's most prolific artists, embarking on ambitious projects like the audio-movieA Prince Among Thieves (which Kane appeared on) and the riotous fun of his Handsome Boy Modeling School project. Hopefully, solid shows like this won't continue to be so hard to come by in our fair city.
At Top Cat's on Friday.
