Delivery jobs come with some expected perils: sprinklers, slippery steps and unchained dogs. But delivering food on college campuses has its own set of challenges.
On the down side — low or no tips, prank calls and the occasional theft. On a funnier note, you never know when you might be invited to the party, meet someone who has the answers to your calculus homework or be greeted at the door by an attractive individual wearing nothing but a towel.
When asked about the trial and tribulations of delivering, Nicholas Ridenour, manager of Pomodori's in Clifton, sighs. "We have problems that happen quite often with the phone," he says, explaining that frequently his drivers are left waiting in a dorm lobby because the phone line is busy when calling up to the rooms. "Generally college students don't tip the drivers as much, but other than that, there are few problems."
Andy Amarantos, owner of Skipper's Pub in Oxford, can't cite any problems. "Last year I had a good set of delivery drivers," he says.
