Music: Kim Scott

Alabama’s Kim Scott has an impressive résumé as a Classical flautist and educator, but when she comes to Cincinnati this weekend, that side of her split musical persona won’t be on display.

With 2011’s Crossing Over album, Scott became a “newcomer” again, transferring her masterful flute abilities to the Smooth Jazz format and quickly earning acclaim for her instrumental takes on R&B/Pop songs by Beyoncé, SWV, Alicia Keys and Chaka Khan.

This year’s follow-up, Rite of Passage, continued down the R&B-tinged Jazz path, with Scott showcasing more original compositions, as well as her vocal chops on the track “Sweet Obsession.”

7 and 9 p.m. Saturday. $20 each show. Blue Wisp Jazz Club, 700 Race St., Downtown, thebluewisp.com.
