It’s a road tour quite unlike any other. Comedian Ron Babcock is bringing his "Benz it Like Babcock Tour" to Mayday in Northside as part of their Bombs Away! Comedy Night. The Benz part of the tour’s name comes from the restored 1975 Mercedes-Benz Babcock is driving coast-to-coast.
"I wanted to submit for a half-hour special on Comedy Central,” he says. “And most comics submit a show and just send it in. I thought my odds would be improved if I went out and did shows every day for a month.”
A buddy that owns a car restoration business suggested he take one of his cars and post about his experiences along the way. “That’s how it all came together,” he says.
The tour offers a chance for Babcock to do something else he loves doing besides stand-up: trying new foods. “I do a show on YouTube called the 'Why Would You Eat That Challenge,'” he says. “It’s where I challenge people to eat strange and exotic food from all over the world. And a friend of mine and I just did a show called 'Why Would You Eat There?' We travelled across the country and ate at crazy restaurants.”
For Babcock, food is great hobby. “It’s a nice way to spend time before a show.”
