“My favorite jokes are the ones that provide some kind of clarity for the audience,” says comedian Greg Johnson. “Like somebody really laughs at it but also says ‘Wow, I never really thought of it that way.’ I think that’s the ultimate goal for a joke.” The Boston native makes his first of what he hopes will be many trips to Cincinnati, this week. He has primarily been working in New York, where he now lives. “I know it’s hard to get behind a comedian that doesn’t have a national following, but I know I’m pretty good and I have gotten a lot of support in New York.”
In addition to stand-up, Johnson has also dabbled in some sketch comedy. “I really enjoy acting,” he states, “but I also know it takes a lot of dedication and hard work to be a successful comedian, so that’s what my main focus is right now.” Johnson describes his set as mostly observational with some self-deprecating humor. It should nicely compliment headliner Mike Birbiglia, who called Johnson and asked him to join him here in Cincinnati. Johnson features for Mike Birbiglia at Go Bananas Thursday-Saturday. $22.
