Constructed in 1866, the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge was used as an architectural prototype for the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. Maybe you never knew it by name, but you’re probably familiar with the local landmark. Perhaps you have crossed it on your way to a Reds or Bengals game, caught a glimpse of it in Rain Man, or even secretly smoked cigarettes under it when you were in high school. This weekend, celebrate art, history, architecture and engineering on this lovely blue suspension bridge. Between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., guides will help you explore the bridge including floodwall murals and bronze statues that line Riverside Drive, and from 2-4 p.m., B.B. Riverboats will offer harbor tours. Get down with live music and dancers, karaoke, bag pipers and a barbershop quartet. Kids will stay entertained with a petting zoo, a moon bounce, tons of games, tricycle races and face painting. For the grown-ups, there will be plenty of food, beer and, naturally, Segway races. There’s even a rumor that John A. Roebling himself will make an appearance. The night will conclude with a dazzling fireworks show. 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday. 621 East Mehring Way, Downtown.
