Are you an environmentally conscious human being who thinks riding a bike to work or school makes you more of a hipster? Are you sick of your friends just laughing at you when you try convincing them that riding your mom’s old bike is cool because it’s “vintage”? If you answered yes to either of these, then chances are the Super Bad Bike Show’s got your name written all over it. Enter to show everyone how trendy your bike is at Newport’s first annual Super Bad Bike Show, sponsored by Bike Reser Outfitters and Bike Newport. The show features five different categories of competition, including one for “Your Momma’s Bike,” “Your Momma’s Momma’s Bike” (for really old-school bikes made pre-1975), “Uno Speedo” (for single-speed bikes), “Stupid” (for bikes with pedal power), “Custom” (for bikes with unique custom characteristics) and “Super Bad,” for the best-in-show bike. Winners of the categories will be judged according to “superbadness,” functionality, rareness and originality, among other criteria. Each category will have three winners and will be judged by five judges. Bikes won’t be permitted on Monmouth Street during the event, so don’t forget to leave on or with your bikes at York and Seventh streets. All proceeds benefit Bike Newport. $5 entry per bike per category. 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 23. Registration from 10-11:30 a.m.
