JEAN SCHMIDT: Poor Jean, she just can’t seem to keep herself off our list. Just a week after her embarrassing testimony in an Ohio Elections Commission complaint she filed against an opponent, the sour-looking congresswoman drew nationwide scorn for an incident caught on video by Think Progress. At a Sept. 5 Tea Party in West Chester, Mean Jean is heard whispering to a woman who believes President Obama wasn’t born in the United States, “I agree with you, but the courts don’t.” Stop pandering to racism and paranoia, Ms. Schmidt. You know better — or at least you should.

SCOTT FARMER: The Cintas Corp. CEO took an almost 20 percent pay cut for the most recent fiscal year, reducing his overall compensation by $262,451 to $1.1 million. The Mason company’s revenues declined in fiscal year 2009, ending 39 consecutive years of increases. Farmer and his family were big contributors to President Bush and GOP candidates in recent years, the same motley crew who helped wreck the economy. How’s that for a return on an investment?

PHIL HEIMLICH: The former Cincinnati city councilman and Hamilton County commissioner had a radio talk show in 2007, Hard Truths, which was heard on five stations around Ohio — but not in the Queen City. One by one, the stations dropped the low-rated chatfest. Now, the arch-conservative Heimlich has bought time on WXIX-TV (Channel 19) at 7:49 a.m. Mondays-Wednesdays to air his “commentaries.” We hope he’s not tapping into unused funds from his campaign war chest to pay for it. Instead, he needs to hit up his old buddies at Citizens for Community Values for a loan.

CHRIS SMITHERMAN: Many observers have accused the Cincinnati NAACP’s president of using misleading wording on a November ballot issue involving streetcars. This time, however, Smitherman appears to be caught making a blatant lie. On the local NAACP’s Web site, Smitherman claimed local Democrats were so angry at Cincinnati City Councilman Jeff Berding that Democratic Party Chairman Tim Burke asked the Republican Party to endorse him. Burke called the claim “bullshit.” Maybe Smitherman has been hanging around coast too long and is picking up bad habits.
