Philadelphia-based artist, writer and curator Zachary Rawe and visual artist and poet Avril Thurman will have an exhibition of artwork at Live(In) Gallery titled if only awkwardly, all gots is words and crying. Both artists pull language from poetry and critical theory, producing artworks that “indulge their passivity and play with romantic notions of crying.” For this exhibition, Rawe culls language from Eve Sedgwick’s A Dialogue on Love, adds his own words and places the text upon customizable objects he buys off the internet, while Thurman creates site-specific sculptures and works on paper (often transcribed onto mundane found objects) from her own deadpan poetic work.
