Ever thought that the riverfront needed a little life? Discover it Friday with the grand opening of the John G. and Phyllis W. Smale Riverfront Park. The park came to fruition after a gift of $20 million was given to the Cincinnati Parks Foundation by John Smale for a park to be dedicated to his late wife. Shortly after the gift, John Smale passed away and the park was renamed. Phase 1 of the construction is completed and includes fountains, walkways, a bike trail, gardens, an event lawn and stage, a labyrinth, a tree grove and the Black Brigade Monument. Future planning sees the park expanding west past the Roebling Suspension Bridge. The grand opening celebration will feature a free concert, Rozzi’s Famous Fireworks after the show and activities for the kids. Mehring Way between Walnut Street and Nuxhall Way.
