Cincinnatians like their chili. Dann Woellert knows this as well as anyone, as his incisive, impressively researched book on the subject, The Authentic History of Cincinnati Chili, makes clear.

His history is packed with photos and informed by numerous interviews with purveyors — like the Kiradjieff, Lambrinides, Perdikakis and Sarakatsannis families — that have made chili such an integral part of life in the Queen City.

Proof of our chili mania? “Cincinnati boasts more than 250 chili parlors, more per capita and square mile than in any city in the world,” Woellert writes.
