Opened in 1844, the Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum is an often overlooked local treasure — a national historical landmark, the second-largest cemetery in the U.S. and a place were a beautiful array of exotic trees and foliage bloom. And, of course, it’s also the resting place for many who are no longer with us. Cemetery historian Phil Nuxhall’s Stories in the Grove tells the narrative of 115 of those buried there, from glass-door oven inventor Ernst H. Huenefeld to Wild Bill Hickok’s wife to former New York Yankees manager Miller Huggins, who guided Babe Ruth for a decade. Nuxhall discusses Stories in the Grove at Joseph-Beth.
