Last year’s widely acclaimed Apocryphon by thunderously heavy Texas rockers The Sword was the band’s first with new drummer Santiago “Jimmy” III Vela, as well as its debut for the diverse Razor & Tie label.
While more lyrically personal than the band’s previous LP, the epic sci-fi concept album Warp Riders, Apocryphon still has the monster riffs, creative, mesmerizing arrangements and spacious vocals and melodies that have long made The Sword among the best of today’s Black Sabbath torch-carriers. The group’s Covington tour stop this week also features like-minded locals Electric Citizen and Valley of the Sun.
8 p.m. Sunday. $14; $16 day of show. Madison Theater, 730 Madison Ave., Covington, Ky., madisontheateronline.com.
