Taken from Richard Hague's collection Alive in Hard Country, this sequence of poems circles around the many sides of addiction, echoed by deep strains of Bluegrass and Gospel. Rather than center on the customary reactions of shame or blame, this award-winning poet presents the many shards of a life lived wrong with a kind of understanding that bridges experience and empathy.
