It’s a Saengerfest! On Sunday in Memorial Hall, a traditional German-American Saengerfest (singing festival) will fill the air as part of a day-long celebration in honor of the building’s 100th anniversary. The Samuel Hannaford-designed Beaux Arts structure commemorates America’s armed forces and is a time capsule inside, including one of the city’s most delightful theaters. A fanfare on the front steps starts things off at 11 a.m., followed by Civil War re-enactments in Washington Park, informational presentations in the building, the Saengerfest at 4 p.m. and a 1940s-era USO dance from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Come and cut a rug! Everything is free except a $10 charge for the dance and $5 for a souvenir program. Get details, buy tickets or find nearby bars and restaurants here
