The regional premiere of The Marvelous Wonderettes in 2010 was the best-selling show in the 27-year history of Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati. The Doo-Wop gals, Cindy Lou, Missy, Betty Jean and Suzy, return for more reminiscing from graduation in 1958 to a reunion in 1968. In fact, even before it opened, ETC extended the third version of the girls’ saga from its announced closing date of May 19 to June 1.
Caps and Gowns features 30 hit tunes from the ’50s and ’60s and ETC seems destined to sustain the Wonderettes’ winning streak. Three of the four original cast members are back, and ETC’s Vine Street stage will be awash in close harmony, hairspray and pastel petticoats for the next month. Lots of folks who wanted to see earlier versions missed out, so call for tickets right away.
