Saturday marks the opening of a long-awaited solo show (his last was in November of 2005) by Publico co-founder Paul Coors. The Art Academy graduate will present a collection of editioned silkscreen-based works along with a handful of drawings in Before I Start Singing. Coors was a panelist at this past Saturday’s “Albums in the 21st Century” lecture at the CAC for the MidPoint conference series discussing the intersection of the commercial and the artistic via WHAT THE…?, a vinyl-only private record label that focuses on small-run handmade editions, which he collaborates on with musician/artist C. Spencer Yeh. Similar to this discussion, the artwork in this exhibit will focus on how form and content come together in “protest, consumption and agency.” “Reconsidering norms is a constant theme,” says Coors. “This show addresses that in many ways, but probably most obvious is the frequent use of editions as a formal and conceptual tool — the idea that the editioned book, record or print is the artwork and not just ephemeral supplement.” The opening is from 7-11 p.m. with hours noon-4 p.m. Saturdays or by appointment through October.
