Area author Joseph Bates’ just-published debut collection of stories, Tomorrowland, is getting sweet notices from a variety of sources, including local novelist and University of Cincinnati professor Michael Griffith: “Tomorrowland is a revelation, combining slightly skewed or fantastic conceits, a darkly comic tone and wonderfully nimble, funny prose, all in the service of a surprisingly serious, touching vision.”
Count us intrigued. Bates — a creative writing professor at Miami University whose previous book, The Nighttime Novelist, was a guide for those with limited writing time — reads from and discusses Tomorrowland.
