Writer-director Naomi Jaye (Peep and A Dozen for Lulu) takes audiences on a dramatic journey, beginning with Leah (Milda Gecaite) and Jacob (Grisha Pasternak) in hiding during World War II. The couple retreats into a barn and their own secret language (Yiddish) to such an extent that the place becomes an oasis from the horrors of the world outside — but nothing like this can last forever. The Pin recalls any number of romantic dramas (The Blue Lagoon, Endless Love) featuring young lovers doing anything and everything they can to stave off the forces awaiting them, but Jaye’s film seeks to pursue the full dramatic arc, capturing the innocence and possible redemptive powers of first love.
