Gather your lil’ peanuts together this weekend for Hamilton County Park Districts, Walnut Weekend. The sixth annual event will be fun for all ages, and will include nut, tree and leaf identifications as you hike along the trails. When the nutty activities wear you down, cool off with some homemade walnut ice cream. Patrons can bring their own nuts to husk for a fee. There will also be a walnut dye pot, where parents and children can dye a garment of their choosing. The park’s gift shop, the Nature Niche, will have walnuts and accessories for sale. End the weekend with a performance by folk musicians Jake Speed and the Freddies. Walnut Weekend will be held at the Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve noon-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event is free and open to the public. A valid Hamilton County Park District Motor Vehicle Permit ($5 annual; $2 daily) is required to enter. Farbach-Werner Nature Preserve is located at 3455 Poole Road, Colerain. Get details and find nearby bars and restaurants here
