It’s a hard thing to follow in an icon’s footsteps, especially when that icon is your parent. But Ziggy Marley proved he was worthy of the legacy set by his father, Bob Marley, many years ago. Though it is hard to believe, Ziggy is now in his 40s and his first acclaimed albums and Grammy awards came in the 1980s.
Ziggy’s new collection of songs is called Fly Rasta and it is a combination of guitar-driven Pop music like “I Don’t Wanna Live On Mars,” crisp Reggae-fied grooves like the title cut and “Give It Away,” and more mature fare like “Lighthouse.” What Ziggy claims is different about the recording process this time around is that he used the power of intention, writing out on paper exactly what he wanted to accomplish with the album. Fly Rasta does not have much of the original intent of 1970s-era Reggae, but Ziggy wrote or co-wrote all of the cuts, so the recording definitely represents his current musical vision.
What is also cool about Ziggy is that he puts his words of peace and caring into action by helping children in need in his native Jamaica, Africa and other places around the world with the U.R.G.E. foundation.
