With The Twilight Saga over and done with, it’s time for Phase Two of the Stephanie Meyer assault on romantic popular culture. Writer-director Andrew Niccol (Gattaca and In Time) would seem to be the right fit for The Host, which melds rebellious young love with a battle for survival as an alien takeover leaves only a precious few unclaimed humans in its wake. Saoirse Ronan (Atonement) stars as a young woman infected with an otherworldly symbiote that has second thoughts after experiencing memories of love with a hunky freedom fighter (Max Irons). William Hurt and Frances Fisher tag along to chaperone this chaste intergalactic affair. Now in theaters. (PG-13) Not screened in time for review
