he 2011 Cincinnati Fringe Festival will wrap up this weekend. It’s been another year of oddball acts and powerful performances. Critics have been invited to give “picks” to shows they think are especially worth seeing. About one-third of the shows have been so designated — three of those (Curriculum Vitae, Headscarf and the Angry Bitch and Melancholy Play) have finished their performance schedules, but others remain, so we’re bringing you some excerpts from a selection of recommended shows.
Know Theatre, the festival’s organizers, will hand out its own Pick of the Fringe awards late Saturday evening at the closing party at their Jackson Street theater complex. They offer a Critic’s Pick (a vote by all the critics covering the Fringe for one show), a Producer’s Pick (a wild-card choice that the staff of Know makes) and the Audience Pick of the Fringe, voted on by audience members. Each Fringe venue has a voting box and ballots; you get one vote, so use it wisely.
