Seven years ago, two witty Geminis — Arianne Benick (vocals) and Julia Johanan (keys) — met at a party. Soon they created a women’s group, hit up yoga and one day randomly busted out “Takin It Slow,” now track 5 on the debut EP from Cincinnati band iolite. Their music is a sultry combination of soul, jazz, blues, reggae and a little dash of R&B.

If the band's music was a color, it would be a dark indigo. This is the kind of music meant to relax and inspire and can be enjoyed anytime, anywhere. Lyrics speak of of concious living, personal integrity, wisdom, knowledge, love and light. Wisdom within these lyrics comes from life lessons learned and remembered.

The music is inspired from multiple genres, uplifting for all ages. Not one song is created without much thought and focus. The main message is understanding and unity for all of humanity.

iolite plays at The Greenwich the first Thursday of every month.
