If you’re a college student planning to host a party for Independence Day in Cincinnati, your options may have just become more limited.
Airbnb announced on June 28 that their initiative to crack down on unauthorized partying in the vacation rental properties has progressed since being put in place one year ago. The initiative restricts Airbnb users under the age of 25 from booking entire home listings — particularly in their hometown — if the guest does not have a history of positive reviews, according to a press release.
And this Fourth of July weekend, no one will be able to book a one-night, entire-home reservation anywhere in the U.S., unless the guest has good Airbnb reviews.
The vacation rental company reports that the initiative has blocked more than 2,000 risky (aka house party) attempts in Cincinnati alone during the one year span.
“Parties are rare, and the great majority of guests to Cincinnati contribute positively and are respectful. However, when (parties) happen, we know it can be disruptive for Hosts and neighbors, which is why we’ve continued to invest in trust and safety,” says Charlie Urbancic of Airbnb Communications in a press release.
The recent announcement comes just six months after the global renting firm suspended 23 Cincinnati properties for violating party policies in November of 2020.
The release of this party prevention data is a part of Airbnb’s “Summer of Responsible Travel,” which takes into account Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to provide additional safety measures for Airbnb hosts and guests. The safety measures include a 50% increase in community support staff on call in addition to the party bans.
So, while travel begins to open up and various events are back on the schedule around Cincinnati this Fourth of July, Airbnb asks to please participate safely and responsibly.
