If you’re looking for an artsy and COVID-safe Valentine's Day weekend idea, ArtsWave has you covered with its #ILoveTheArts event.
From 6-9 p.m. on Friday Feb. 12 and Saturday Feb. 13, nearly 50 buildings throughout Greater Cincinnati will light up in “ArtsWave red.”
Whether you’re choosing to navigate the streets on foot, by car, bicycle or streetcar, an interactive map on the ArtsWave website makes it easy for attendees to locate the illuminated buildings, like the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, the Aronoff Center for the Arts and Revolution Dance Theatre Warehouse.
Throughout the weekend, there will be several additional ways to celebrate local artists from a safe distance. If you want to bring some of the arts into your own home, Cincinnati Shakespeare Company has two recorded performances of “Romeo and Juliet,” which will be streamed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. WVXU also will air an audio performance of the romantic tragedy at 7 p.m. Sunday.
But if two love-obsessed teenagers isn’t really your cup of tea, the Queen City Cabaret will present a musical storytelling about Doris Day, Cincinnati’s girl-next-door who became a Hollywood hit. “Tea for Two – A Valentine from Doris Day” can be viewed at 7:30 p.m. Sunday on TvHamilton and Facebook.
For a souvenir to take home, you can get an #ILoveTheArts face mask when you donate to ArtsWave to help revive the region’s cultural heart and creative economy.
And those with a little luck have the chance to win an iPhone X. Submit your best photo taken during the #ILoveTheArts event via social media, and a team of experts will judge each photo submission based on technical skill and how well the photo captures the vibrancy of the Red Light Display and Cincinnati’s arts.
