Hold onto your gourmet take-away containers, foodies. There's some thrilling news afoot.
You will no longer have to drive to Dayton to visit Dorothy Lane Market because the cult-favorite regional grocer has announced plans to open its first Greater Cincinnati store in Mason. (So, yes, you still have to drive to Mason...)
The new store will be located in an 80,000-square-foot mixed-used development on 70 acres at the corner of Mason-Montgomery and Western Row roads.
“We’re very excited by the prospect of joining the Mason community,” says Norman Mayne, owner of Dorothy Lane Market, in a release. “For over 70 years, we’ve been serving customers in Dayton, but also many who come to us from the Greater Cincinnati area. We’ve been searching for years for the right place for a store there. We feel fortunate to have found this excellent location in Mason. It’s been great to work with the City of Mason and we already feel at home there.”
This will be the first Dorothy Lane Market in Greater Cincinnati. They operate three other stores in Oakwood, Washington Township and Springboro, all in the Dayton area.
A family business in operation since 1948, the gourmet grocer is like Whole Foods-meets-Jungle-Jim's-meets-Trader Joe's (for those who haven't been). They offer a vast selection of fresh fruits and veggies; excellent cheese; gourmet packaged items; a to-die-for bakery; a deli counter with meats, cheese and a variety of housemade salads; prepared foods; wine; beer; flowers; health items...
“Dorothy Lane Market will be a wonderful anchor for our new walkable community, which will create an exciting destination for upscale retail and restaurants and the latest in lifestyle living opportunities,” said Tom Humes, President of Traditions Group and project co-developer, in the same release.
Apparently this new mixed-used development will feature "five lakes, a waterfront boardwalk, and walking paths with a central green connecting (Dorothy Lane Market), restaurants, and retail shops to a boutique hotel and residential lifestyle community on the site as well as nearby neighborhoods."
Basically, you could literally live next to Dorothy Lane Market. And if that isn't exciting news for humans who enjoy eating, we don't know what is.
Mason City Council put the project in motion during its Oct. 25 meeting, but will require further approvals from all parties involved. If everything goes smoothly, groundbreaking will begin in 2022.
