Purple People Bridge to Host 'Boom on the Bridge' During Labor Day Fireworks Show

It's a win-win: Proceeds from the event benefit repairing the pedestrian bridge, and folks get to enjoy the best seat in the house during the epic firework display.

The annual Western & Southern/WEBN fireworks display will return to the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky riverfront on Sept. 5, after taking a pandemic-induced hiatus of the full-scale event last year.

And this year, you can experience the epic show with a front row seat to the action while helping fund repairs to a beloved pedestrian bridge.

Boom on the Bridge will take place on the Kentucky side of the Purple People Bridge, and tickets include complimentary soft drinks, water, snacks, one alcoholic beverage, one food and dessert ticket for participating food trucks Sweets & Meats BBQ and Marty's Waffles, live music and a parking pass (for every two tickets purchased). Additionally, guests may purchase additional food and drinks from the bar.

Tickets are priced at $150 per person for ages 13 and up, $75 for children aged 3-12 and free for children under the age of 3. A table for eight guests can be reserved for $1,000.

The Purple People Bridge closed to pedestrians in May after portions of it fell into the Ohio River. It has since partially reopened on the Kentucky side after an inspection by engineering firm WSP USA evaluated the structure and concluded that the portion south of pier-one was safe, says the Newport Southbank Bridge Company, which oversees the bridge.

"Boom on the Bridge is not only a great way to enjoy the Western & Southern/WEBN fireworks, but the funds from the tickets and sponsorships will also help repair and reopen the Purple People Bridge," said Newport Southbank Bridge Company President Will Weber.

The event will run from 6-10 p.m. on Sept. 5.
