A Greater Cincinnati staple is growing roots in Over-the-Rhine this fall, taking over a familiar destination on Vine Street.

Oakley-based MadTree Brewing, which opened in 2013, has announced its partnership with 3CDC to create The Alcove, a taproom, bar and restaurant boasting MadTree brews, craft cocktails. The establishment also will feature farm-to-table bites by chef Stephen Williams of Covington's esteemed Bouquet Restaurant.

The Alcove will take over the space formerly occupied by Kaze (including the dreamy patio courtyard) as well as the historic Weilert's Beer Garden space, at 1400-1410 Vine Street.

“3CDC has waited more than a decade to find the right partner to bring the old Weilert’s Beer Garden back to life, and we feel we’ve finally found the perfect fit with MadTree’s Alcove,” says Lindzie Gunnels, 3CDC’s senior commercial leasing officer.

A release from the brewery also notes that a portion of the space (which will be used as the private event venue) formerly housed the Yokum Athletic Club – the gym where professional boxer Ezzard Charles trained.

The front portion of the Kaze space, which closed at the end of 2019, houses local clothing company The Native One which moved from a smaller space on Vine Street in November.

The brewery describes The Alcove as having light-filled spaces throughout, a large bar, "lush patio space for lounging and dining," a greenhouse with live plants that will be used in cocktails and a private event space.

The brewery has teamed up with local nonprofit Urban Blooms to feature living walls and living chandeliers throughout the spaces.

“Our goal is to create experiences that encourage people to connect with each other, get comfortable and relax in an easy going, vibrant and natural space.  Whether you’re popping in for a drink and bite, or making a night of it, we’re creating a space that feels like an urban oasis and a break from the norm,” says Brady Duncan, co-founder of MadTree Brewing.

The Alcove is slated to open this fall and will be open daily for lunch and dinner.
