A highly ranked Cincinnati institution just earned even more honors.
Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is among the top medical centers in the nation for kids, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings released Tuesday. The hospital is No. 4 overall due to its many lauded specialties.
Children's also is tops in the Midwest, U.S. News says. The annual publication added a new multi-state regional category in 2021 and identified the No. 1 hospital in each. Cincinnati Children's also is No. 1 in Ohio.
Moreover, Cincinnati Children's is No. 2 in pediatric urology, No. 3 in pediatric cancer, No. 3 in pediatric diabetes and endocrinology, No. 8 in neonatology (treatment of ill newborns) and is highly ranked in several other specialties.
"Our employees come to work to make a difference, and they do. Recognition as one of the best pediatric hospitals in the nation is one of many reasons I’m grateful and proud to be a part of Cincinnati Children’s," Michael Fisher, president and CEO of Cincinnati Children’s, says in a press release.
To produce its rankings, U.S. News collected data from 200 hospitals and solicited opinions from top pediatric doctors throughout the nation. The data used reflects pre-pandemic information.
Cincinnati Children's has frequently been in the news over the course of the coronavirus pandemic, as the medical center has been instrumental in conducting COVID-19 vaccine trials for children.
"The COVID-19 pandemic brought many challenges, but like we have for 138 years, every day our outstanding team shows up to provide the best care and support for our patients, families, and community," Fisher says. "Our medical center was one of the first sites in the country to participate in clinical trials for COVID-19 vaccines in adults and children, solidifying us as a leader in research and discovery. Our people answered the call to help vaccinate our community, helping to immunize more than 13,000 people to date. All the while, we continued to improve outcomes and deliver an excellent experience — be it in person, or via telehealth."
