Greater Cincinnati's Cunningham Sisters won a soulful battle on Tuesday’s episode of NBC singing competition show The Voice.
Gospel duo Macie and Marie Cunningham — 15-years-old and 14-years-old, respectively — perform under the name the Cunningham Sisters. Hailing from Butler County, they say come from a long line of musicians who grew up singing in church. Their great-grandfather was the leader of the band Holy City Travels.
The sisters, on Team Kelly Clarkson, have been on Season 21 of The Voice since their audition in August. On the recent episode, they said they struggled with bullying throughout school but they’ve had each other’s back the whole way.
For the battle, the two were paired with competitor Parker McKay and were asked to sing “It’s My Party.” Country star Jason Aldean, who helped the girls prepare the piece, applauded their performance saying, “Anytime you see someone that good that young, it definitely is going to get your attention.”
“How can you not instantly fall in love with these two?” asked Blake Shelton following their performance.
In the end, coach Clarkson had to make the tough decision to declare the Cunningham sisters the winner of the battle and send McKay home.
