The MLK Coalition is taking part of its annual program online due to the region's recent COVID-19 surge.
The Coalition's 47th annual MLK Day will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, with a commemorative march that starts at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center at 50 E. Freedom Way. The march will proceed to Washington Park, where an interfaith prayer service will take place.
Two Metro buses that honor activism pioneer Rosa Parks will join the march. The buses will provide transportation to those who are unable to march the entire way.
To help slow the spread of COVID, the MLK Coalition strongly suggests wearing masks and spacing out household pods during the march. Masks are required on the Metro buses and at the interfaith service.
After that, a special program will celebrate King's legacy and will be live-streamed only — no in-person attendance permitted. At noon, Cincinnati entrepreneur and activist Iris Roley will serve as keynote speaker, and members of the MLK Chorale and students from the University of Cincinnati will perform.
The program will be livestreamed at noon and will be available online the following day and throughout January.
