Throughout the month of April, visitors' ventures through the blooming flowers at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden will be heightened by performances from local musicians.

Starting this Thursday, April 7, guests will be able to enjoy a free family-friendly concert as well as the over 100,000 tulips on display at the zoo as a part of the Zoo's Tunes & Blooms program.

The Tunes & Blooms program will take place from 5-8:30 p.m. on every Thursday evening in April.

“The cold weather slowed down the blooming process a bit, but the tulips are starting to open all around the Zoo,” said Cincinnati Zoo director Thane Maynard in a press release. “Music doesn’t start until 6 p.m., so arrive a little early to tour the garden and see Zoo Blooms.”

Zoo Blooms last throughout the month of April and features one of the Midwest's largest collections of tulips as well as over a million spring flowers like daffodils and hyacinths, plus tons of flowering trees and shrubs.

Zoo officials have also curated a Spotify playlist featuring some songs from the artists that will be rocking out the zoo in April.

Here is the lineup of local musicians set to perform during the special program:

  • April 7 - Highly Likely | Loopman Dan
  • April 14 - Whiskey Bent Valley Boys | Plan
  • April 21 - The Cliftones | Emily Parker Trio
  • April 28 - Restless Leg String Band | Matt Cowherd

Visitors can also check out the hand-painted rain barrels lining Swan Lake bridge. Between April 11 and April 21, you’ll be able to bid on your favorite rain barrel — and possibly even take it home. Proceeds from the auction will be donated to the zoo and Save Local Waters, an Ohio and Northern Kentucky-based stormwater collaborative.

The zoo opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. Members may enter at 9 a.m.

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is located at 3400 Vine St., Avondale. For more info, visit cincinnatizoo.org.
