Only 8 Cincinnati Public Pools Are Opening This Summer. Here's How You Can Swim There

Looking for a way to cool down as temperatures rise?

While the city of Cincinnati has 24 public pools, only eight swimming spots are opening this summer due to staffing shortages, according to the Cincinnati Recreation Commission (CRC). That number could increase, however, as the CRC is still hiring staff. (The recreation website lists information for all 24 pools, but a call confirmed only a select few are slated to open this year.)

As of now, here are the eight pools that are opening:

• Dempsey (933 Hawthorne Ave., East Price Hill) — Features a deep-water pool with a diving board, as well as a shallow wading pool
  
• Otto Armleder Memorial Regional Aquatic Center at Dunham Recreation Complex aka Dunham (4356 Dunham Lane, Westwood) — Features a shallow pool, water slide and zero-depth entrance
• Evanston (3205 Woodburn Ave., Evanston) — Features a wading pool, water slide, zero-depth entrance and shallow pool
• Otto Armleder Memorial Family Aquatic Center at Hirsch aka Hirsch (3630 Reading Road, Avondale) — Features a water spray feature, water slides, shallow pool, wading pool and zero-depth entrance
• Lincoln (1027 Linn St., West End ) — Features a deep end, diving well, diving board and wading pool
• McKie (1655 Chase Ave., Northside) — Features a deep pool with a diving board and a shallow wading pool
• Oakley (3900 Paxton Ave., Oakley) — Features a deep-water pool with a diving board and a shallow wading pool
• Pleasant Ridge (5915 Ridge Ave., Pleasant Ridge) — Features a deep-water pool with a diving board and a shallow wading pool

The Dunham, McKie and Oakley pools are opening May 28, while the rest open June 6.

Pool memberships are now on sale at the CRC website. Season passes run $30 for youths up to 17 years old and for those 60 and older (CRC calls this age group "mature adults"), while adult memberships (ages 18-59) are $45. Daily passes are available for $2 for youths, $3 for mature adults and $5 for adults. Family memberships are available for $120 and are good for three to six members of the same household.

Memberships are good for 12 months and get you access to all CRC public pools, except Dunham. Daily entry to Dunham is $4 for youths, $5 for mature adults and $7 for adults. Season passes to that pool are $60 for youths and mature adults and $75 for adults, and will also grant access to any other CRC pool.

The city also operates nine free spraygrounds — including at the McKie, Oakley and Pleasant Ridge Pools — which are open Memorial Day to Labor Day.
